The great-great-grandfather, Dr. Philip Finckel, was a physician and surgeon of Berks county, Pennsylvania, during and prior to the Revolutionary war. The original American ancestor of the family was Philip Finckel, a sturdy German Palatine, who settled about the year 1720 in the Livingston Manor, in what is now Columbia county, New York.
