  From: "Chris McManus" Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2002 5:30 PM Subject: DeCormis-Winder connections [snip] (I had on my website) LEVIN YEARDLEY WINDER and his wife ANNA DECORMIS had 3 children. That one of them was Judge William Winder, and that this Judge William Winder was the father of Sue Winder who married Arthur Segar. You also had for: Anna DECORMIS, Born:1824-1825, Married: Abt 1845,Died: 1865-1870 and forLEVIN YEARDLEY WINDER Born: 1821-1822, Accomack Co, VA , Married: Abt 185, Died: 1865-1870 Errors: 1. The Winders had many more than 3 children. For evidence, see source below, as well as a letter I have in the handwriting of their daughter Laura Winder, where she lists her siblings and who they married. 2. William Winder was not one of the children. He's not listed on either of the good sources above, or on census records of the family. 3. The Sue Winder who married Arthur Segar was not a granddaughter of Leavin Yeardley Winder and his wife Anna DeCormis. She was a daughter of that couple. She is so listed on the census records, in Laura Campbell's letter, and in the monograph below. 4. Anna DeCormis was born March 17, 1824 married May 8, 1845, and died Sep 21 1860, according to family Bible records. So only the death date is in error. 5. Levin Y Winder didn't die 1865-1870, but about 1900. My grandfather wrote that this Levin Y Winder died after 1897 at the home of his unmarried daughter Cornelia. Evidence: my grandfather remembered well visiting him in 1897, the year my grandfather was married (so he wan't likely to mix up the year.) Another source that disproves the William Winder error, is a monograph from 1896, 100 years before the source cited in your notes. Campbell; Levin Yeardley Winder d. 1878; Cornelia Hampton Winder; Frank Winder; Kate Winder; Henry Winder; Rosalie Hildegrave Winder m. George Lindsay.
