My grandmother's 1st husband was William Milton Winders, who died in the 1st world war. They owned a home in Humphrey, Arkansas. They had 1 child, William Elmer Winders b june 9, 1915. My grandmother's maiden name was Angie Burleson. She married William E Hamilton and had 2 children: Milton Hamilton, and Thomas Hamilton (my father).
Wm E Winders (called Bill) married Mattie. Bill started work at Ford in 1940, my father in 1948, Milton in 1950 all in Memphis. My father kept in contact with Bill until he died in 1987. My father still talks to his children from time to time in Ohio. My father (Thomas Hamilton) moved to Florence, AL to work at a Ford plant, where he retired and lives. I have just started seaching for family.

William Elmer Winders is my father's half brother. My grandmother is Angie Ion Burleson(maiden name) Winders(1st marriage) Hamilton(my father's father) Craddick(last marriage). Angie was born jan 5, 1896, died in mar 1980. Her father was H. Burleson, a justice of the peace. Angie's mother was half indian. Angie's parents came from Texas. She lived with my father in Alabama the last years of her life. She is buried in Arkansas with the Burlesons and son-Milton Hamilton(my father's brother). Angie had 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
William Elmer Winders married Mattie ?. They had four children, William(called Billy), Barbara, Earlgean, Caroline.
William Milton Winders married Angie Ion Burleson, had one child,(William Elmer Winders). William Milton Winders fought with the Rainbow Div in ww1, where he died. Hi Cathy,
Sorry it took so long to respond. Good to hear from you. My father is Earl Winders, Wm. Elmer's son. What I have found out is as follows:
William Melton was born about August 1894 in Lonoke County, AR. He died 10/4/1918 and is buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France.
William Melton's parents were A.P. (Alfred) Winder and Manda Gabrell (Gabriel). They were married 8/3/1894 in Lonoke County. He was 40 and she was 15. Apparently, Manda's real name was Amandie.
Here is where I am stuck and the mystery begins. William Melton is found in the 1900 Lonoke County, AR census, living with his grandparents (Manda's parents) John Gabriel and Sarah (also known as Fannie). John Gabriel was born about 1842 in Mississippi. Fannie was born about 1847 in either Mississippi or North Carolina. William Melton is found again in the 1910 Lonoke County, AR census still living with his grandparents John and Sarah. John and Sarah both died before 1920 and are buried at Wattensaw Cemetery, Lonoke County, AR.
Now, I guess my question is what happened to William Melton's parents (Alfred Winder and Manda Gabrell) between 1894 and 1900? Why are they not raising their son? Did they die? Did Manda's parents decide to raise William and told Alfred and Manda to get out? That could be possible. Did Manda die in child birth? It's hard to say. This is my dilemna.
If there is anyway you could get me somewhere with this, I would appreciate it. I gave you what I have.
      Take care, Barb
