Subject: Statement concerning Parentage of James Winder, died 1839 in Uniontown, PA
Subject James was the father of Col. John Winder of Detroit.
I just found a statement on the Winder Genealogical Forum that this James Winder was a son of Thomas Winder, born about 1748 in Frederick Co., MD, and his wife, Nancy. The statement was that James was born aboput 1769, and died 22 Nov 1839 in Fayette Co., PA, and that he married Mary Van Houten.
This interesting message, apparently sent to Ann Schrader by a Mona Kennedy, says that the other children of Thomas and Nancy are:
John Winder, born about 1767, who married Martha Lang in 1790 in Frederick Co., MD;
Nancy Winder, born about 1771
Matilda Winder born about 1776, married 14 Feb 1804 to Adam Fauber
Mary Winder, born about 1780, married 11 Jun 1890, Washington Co., Md to Christian Winedrenner.
I treat this info as possible. The stuff about James is confirmed by what Col. John seemed to know about his family.
The marriages in Maryland I rather wonder about! Of course, I don't know when Thomas moved to Shenandoah County, VA, so maybe his kids all did get married in MD before Thomas went up the Shenandoah Valley!
