Ann, I am trying to make a connection between Ingabe Winders who married John Henry Welty in Nov. 1866 and my ggrandmother Nora Bell Welty born 1873. My ggmother had the name Winders in her bible, but not the name Ingabe. The names listed were Phebe, Nora A., Allen and Lorenzo. Do you have a record of an Ingabe Winders? I also was told she married a John Carr in 1875. I would appreciate any help. I've been searching for the last 3 or 4 years and only recently made the connection between Winders and Welty. BUT, I don't know if this is indeed Nora's parents. I will be waiting patiently (?) to hear from you. Thanks, Connie

      [snip]
Let me try to go through my story as briefly as I can. I am 61 now and when I was a young girl my Ggma Nora would spend weeks or months in our home periodically. Once her husband died she lived with her daughter (Helen). Who, by the way, is still living in her own apartment at 99 years old. She'll be 100 in January but starting to fail. I've been trying to get this story completed before she passes away. Great Aunt Helen does not know who Nora's parents were. Or can't remember. Ggma Nora would talk about a half sister and brother. She said that her half sister was murdered by her Mexican husband. A story that GAHelen cringes at when it was mentioned. One of those dirty little secrets, I guess. We were also told by Ggma that her grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Sooooooo once I got into the genealogy I first had to connect the dots here. At least I thought I could........ On my own I wasn't able to find anything. Luckily a very knowledgeable gentleman named Paul Gifford (pgifford@umflint.edu ) suggest I check into a John Henry Welty as her father. Right about that time my aunt checked Ggma bible for names. That is where the name Winders popped up. This is exactly what the bible read:
      Phebe Winders/Allen McKee Married: April 7, 1873
Maude McKee Born: Sept. 16, 1878
      Nora A. Winders Born: Jan. 11, 1864
Nora Belle Welty Born: Feb. 6, 1873
      Allen (J.C.) Winders Died: July 25, 1841
Lorenzo Winders Married: April 13, 1865
While searching through an old bible that I have here of Ggma's I found her marriage license. She married Charles O. Brown. Which we already knew but I was hoping there was more information on the application for the marriage license. I ordered another copy but it was exactly the same as mine. I then took Mr. Gifford's advice and called for a marriage license of John Henry Welty. Bingo! Up pops the name Ingabe WINDERS. Now according to my thinking - I should be able to find all of the bible Winders plus Ingabe in some other source. WRONG AGAIN....... Absolutely can not find another Ingabe anywhere. The marriage of Welty and Winders is very plain. The name is indeed Ingabe. They were married in Pike County, Illinois. I guess I should tell you that Ggma was born in Barry, Illinois. No birth certificate was found in their records. Also that she was married, July 22, 1896. John Henry Welty married Ingabe Winders on Nov. 8, 1866.
I was also told by Mr. Gifford that John Henry Welty must have died by 1880. And.......my nephew found an Ingabe who was married to a John Carr in 1875 in the same area as the Winders were. Yes, he said that Ingabe and John Carr were married in the same town that Phebe and Allen McKee were married. He's speculating that after John Welty died she went to Marion, Mo. for support from her family (Winders) and met and married John Carr. Just a big guessing game.........
