As to what i know about my ancestors concerning their religious connections was what I heard them talking about, and the effect it had on me . They were all against drinking, and progress . None were business men , or professionals of any kind until the 1940s my mother spoke a lot about the Quakers.
My father's family were General Baptists. My maternal grand father was called by others (camolite ) spelling ? He was a different kind who wanted nothing in the church except prayer and silent worship. No music. and no speaking unless led by the spirit No one that I knew ,not one believed in settling any thing by violence.
They were so strict that any one who went to country dances or used certain words.(were they called 4 letter words?) were worldly and that was a sin to be worldly. and carnal. The bible was the only literature allowed. Money was not to be sought after except enough for the bare necessities of life. We had no entertainment at all except children could and did play games.
No money was spent on toys, pets, and for sure no movies, or novels.
No gambling of any kind. We as children could play marbles, but not for keeps. ( gambling tabu)
This could go on for ever , but am sure you get the point . Not Catholic, not Jewish,
not Lutheran not southern baptists.
